3D mammograms display breast tissue as very thin layers. Doctors can examine each layer, ensuring fewer abnormalities are missed. This is especially important for women with dense breast tissue.

  • 3D screening has led to a 29 percent increase in the early detection of breast cancer.

  • False alarms and recalls have significantly decreased.

  • It is more effective finding cancers in women with dense breast tissue.

  • Mammograms detect breast cancer at earlier stages over physical examinations, when treatment will be most effective.

  • Mortality rates for breast cancer decrease at least 40 percent for women who have regular mammograms.

  • Mild compression with a mammogram is necessary to allow for a clear view of the breast tissue. This also reduces the amount of radiation needed to obtain the image.

Women with a family history or genetic predisposition (BRCA genes) are at increased risk for breast cancer. However, 85 percent of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history.

BDC offers in-office biopsy procedures for our patients. Often biopsies are performed on the same day as your mammogram should findings raise a concern. We are committed to providing you with accurate results in 24 to 48 hours.

  • 3D mammogram-guided biopsies result in faster procedures, higher precision and lower x-ray exposure.

  • Ultrasound-guided biopsies offer quick recovery time and precise placement of the needle.

  • Our doctors will personally call you with the results of your biopsy and discuss the findings with you. You will be able to ask any and all questions you may have regarding the procedure and results.

We know that finding a breast lump is a scary proposition. Rest assured that most do not turn out to be cancer; however it is important to have all masses checked out in a timely manner. At the Breast Diagnostic Centers, we expedite biopsy procedures. Your comfort and peace of mind are our priority.

DXA helps to determine whether you are at low, increased or high risk for fracturing a bone. It safely, accurately and painlessly measures bone mineral density with one simple scan.

  • Unlike typical x-ray machines, radiation exposure during a DXA scan is minimal, comparable to the amount of radiation one may be exposed to on a coast-to-coast airline flight.

  • The process is fast and comfortable. Testing takes only minutes and does not require the removal of clothes.

  • DXA scans are not invasive and do not require injections of any kind.

  • Appointments are available Monday through Friday in our Federal Way office.

Breast MRI, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, is a safe, noninvasive test that uses the combination of magnetic field and radio wave energy to produce high-quality, detailed pictures.

  • Screen high-risk patients, such as women with a BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 gene mutation or strong family history.

  • Determine the extent of known breast cancer to assist with further treatment options.

  • Monitor response to treatment, including chemotherapy.

  • Evaluate lumpectomy sites following treatment.

  • Determine implant rupture or leakage.

Breast MRI services are offered as part of a collaborative partnership between Center for Diagnostic Imaging (CDI) and  Breast Diagnostic Center (BDC). Our doctors will read the MRI exams. Appointments are scheduled for BDC patients at CDI in Federal Way or Lakewood.
